Abhishek Sujeet Sharma from Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Nagar slum cleared the JEE and got admission into IIT Delhi and inspired countless others with his determination and perseverance.
Abhishek Sujit Sharma, who lives in Lokmanya Tilak Nagar slum in Mumbai, saw his luck change the day his JEE Advanced result came. His rank was so good that he got a seat in IIT Delhi. Today, he has gone from being a slum boy to an IITian, which is actually a big victory for the boys living in his community.
Be it studying on the terrace using his neighbour’s WiFi connection or ignoring the endless noise and troubles around him, Abhishek has overcome every obstacle in one go. Now he will be able to rescue his family from poverty and give them a better standard of living. Let us tell you that Physics Wala founder Alakh Pandey recently visited a slum in Mumbai to personally congratulate Abhishek and have lunch with his family, and also made a video there which was well liked on social media.
The family survived on the father’s income of Rs 3000
Abhishek’s father works as a labourer in a steel fabrication company, and his family of four lives in a small rented room in Harad Chawl, where they get Rs 3,000 per month. The area is plagued with problems like robbery, drug abuse and petty fights, making it not conducive for education. Apart from this, there is also a serious lack of basic facilities here. There are no private toilets and all the families use community toilets.
Abhishek says that due to our financial constraints as well as limited internet facility, when my mobile data used to run out, I had to study on the terrace using a neighbour’s Wi-Fi connection. But inspired by how far his family was willing to go to support his education, this IIT aspirant kept his focus on his studies and stayed away from his peers involved in suspicious activities. Abhishek says that my family was my biggest support system during my entrance exam preparation.
I had dreamed of becoming a scientist
Living in a small one-room house in Harda Chawl, they made countless sacrifices to support me. My parents used to sleep on the floor so that I could get a bed, to ensure that I had a comfortable place to study, Abhishek adds. Abhishek’s inspirational story depicted in Alakh Pandey’s video received appreciation from millions of people and garnered 8.1 million views and 693K likes on Instagram. From a young age, Abhishek dreamed of becoming a scientist and making a mark in physics after meeting Alakh Pandey and getting a scholarship. His journey took a turn when he discovered Physics Wala’s budget-friendly online preparation courses.
If your destination is water then have faith in yourself
He says that finding affordable but reliable education sources can be difficult when money is a problem. I studied from PW’s Arjun and Lakshya batches’ online classes, which not only provided comprehensive coverage of the JEE syllabus but also conducted regular tests and doubt clearing sessions. Abhishek credits his success to the guidance of Physics Wala. He says that meeting Alakh Pandey in person changed his life. Meeting Alakh sir in person at my home was a life-changing experience. His scholarship is beyond the value of money. It gave me hope and motivation. Abhishek says that for all the students who aspire to succeed in competitive exams like JEE, I have only one message that believe in yourself and stay focused on your goals despite the challenges. Our circumstances do not define our ability.
