Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. This award will be presented to the actor during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on 8 October 2024. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced to honor the actor.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav wrote on social media platform Mithun da’s cinematic journey has inspired every generation. I am honored to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to honor Mithun Chakraborty for his significant contribution to Indian cinema.

Received National Award for the very first film

Mithun’s journey in the film industry has been inspirational. He has entertained fans by giving many superhit movies in his career. Born in Kolkata, Mithun is an actor, producer and politician by profession. The actor has appeared in more than 350 films. These include Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Bhojpuri, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi movies. Mithan made his acting debut in the year 1977 with the film Mrigayaa. He received the National Award for Best Actor for his very first film.

Mithun’s brilliant career

In the beginning of his career, he was seen in small roles. Mithun worked in less screen space in the movies ‘Do Anjaane’, ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’. Then the low budget film ‘Suraksha’ released in 1979 helped him gain fame. The movie ‘Prem Vivah’ also played an important role in boosting his career. Mithun has worked in ‘Humse Badhkar Kaun’, ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Trinetra’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Hum Se Hai Jamana’, ‘Woh Jo Hasina’, ‘Aalaan’, ‘Zor Laga Ke…Haiya’, ‘Chal Chalen’. Has worked in hit movies like ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Taxi Chor’, ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Mithun debuted in Bengali cinema in 1978 with the movie Nadi Theke Sagare. In 2008, Mithun was seen in the Bhojpuri film ‘Bhole Shankar’. It is said that this is the biggest Bhojpuri film till date. After films, Mithun has also established his influence on TV. The actor has judged many dance shows, like ‘Dance India Dance’, ‘Hunarbaaz-Desh Ki Shaan’. Even at the age of 74, Mithun is active in films. His previous Hindi film was ‘The Kashmir Files’.

He has received the National Award 3 times for his excellent performance in his career. The actor is also honored with Padma Bhushan. In the year 1989, 19 films were released as his lead actor. His name is registered in Limca Book of Records. This record of the actor has not been broken till date in Bollywood.

First marriage broke in 4 months

Talking about personal life, the actor married actress Helena Luke in 1979. But this relationship lasted only for 4 months. After divorce, actress Yogita Bali came into Mithun’s life. Both of them got married. He has 4 children. Mimoh, Namashi, Ushmey. The couple has adopted a daughter, Dishani Chakraborty.
